About Nostalgia UK Ltd

Nostalgia is a friendly family run business established in 1976 and since then has created an international reputation for dealing in fine quality genuine antique fireplaces and antique fireplace accessories.

Nostalgia is a long standing member of LAPADA, the Association for Art & Antique Dealers. Nostalgia is the only registered LAPADA member specialising in antique fireplaces outside of London.

Members of LAPADA are seen to belong to an internationally recognised and widely respected professional association, giving confidence to all those who buy or sell. Membership is only open to those who meet the Association's exacting requirements as to experience, quality of stock and knowledge of their subject.

Nostalgia is also a member of SALVO, and as such adheres to the SALVO Code also. The Salvo Code gives customers greater confidence that items which they buy have not been stolen or removed from protected historic buildings without permission.

Established over 40 years ago, Nostalgia has acquired an unparalleled selection of some of the finest antique fireplaces available on the market. With so much knowledge and experience Nostalgia offers exceptional restoration on all their reclaimed fireplaces and gives a high quality finish that will last for generations to come. To ensure this happens Nostalgia give out a Care & Maintenance booklet with every fireplace.

Fireplace Surrounds
A fireplace surround, chimneypiece or mantelpiece is the ornamental decoration applied to the aperture of the chimney opening. They were made in a variety of sizes and material such as cast iron, marble, stone, slate or wood. All our fire surrounds are genuine antiques and we only use traditional methods in their restoration to ensure that every piece retains its authenticity.

Many of our reclaimed fireplace surrounds can be found below, but we have many more awaiting restoration in our warehouse so please contact us today if you cannot find what you are looking for; or why not pay us a visit to see the entire collection.

Grates
A fire grate, register grate or insert is framework used to hold the fuel and contain the fire. Very often these pieces are made of cast iron but can also be constructed from wrought iron, have applied brass, copper or steel decoration. Grates from the late 19th Century on wards will often feature runs of tiles either side of the grate too.

Combination Grates
Combination grates or All-in-One fireplaces are as the name implies a combination of a fire surround and grate, made from cast iron they are constructed as one unit. Popular in smaller rooms or bedrooms from the mid-19th Century. Larger combination grates can also accommodate tiles either side of the grate.

Accessories
Antique fireplace accessories come in all manner of forms. The most common two are fireplace fenders and fire irons. Fenders were used as both additional decoration to the fireplace but also a practical solution to prevent hot coals rolling off the hearth. Fire irons are the tools used to manage the fire. They were often in sets of three. A poker, pair of tongs and a shovel. Most commonly found in steel but were also made from brass and occasionally copper in the late 19th Century.

All our fireplace accessories are genuine antiques and we only use traditional methods in their restoration to ensure that every piece retains its authenticity.

Decorative Antiques
As well as fireplaces we also have a collection of specially selected decorative antique and architectural items, which include garden statuary, furniture, amongst other interesting and collectable pieces.

Lighting
We have a growing collection of restored antique lighting, ranging from large cut glass chandeliers and hall lanterns to gas wall lights sympathetically restored and converted to electricity. Many of our lights are still unrestored or undergoing restoration and have yet to be photographed, so please contact us today if you cannot find what you are looking for on our website.

Restoration
As well as restoring and selling our own high quality reclaimed fireplaces.
Nostalgia can offer its expert restoration service for your own antique fireplace. With over 40 years’ experience, our restoration of marble, stone, slate, wood and cast iron fireplaces is second to none.
