The regulations concerning working at height are pretty clear; ‘Every employer shall so far as is reasonable practicable ensure that the surface and every parapet, permanent rail or other such fall protection measure of every place of work at height are checked on each occasion before the place is used.’

The HSE places the responsibility for the safety of scaffolding on employers however there is some complexity around what qualifications are required to inspect scaffolding. The safest way to ensure your scaffolding is compliant with current regulations is to have it regularly inspected by a fully qualified scaffolding inspector. Isis inspectors have been trained and are certified to carry out inspections on all types of scaffolding construction from basic systems to complex builds.

Any scaffolding used for constructions should be inspected before it is first used and then every 7 days afterwards until it is removed.

It is also important to have the scaffolding inspected when it is exposed to conditions that may cause its safety to deteriorate, for instance following adverse weather conditions or following substantial alterations.
