About Heritage Cob & Lime
Heritage Cob and Lime - Traditional Builders Merchants
Our lime mortars are made with the knowledge and passion that comes from years of working in historic restoration. We are official stockists of Tarmac Buxton Lime and manufacture and supply lime mortars and associated products of superior quality, at competitive prices, to both the building trade and to private customers.
Lime Mortar Manufacturers and Suppliers
Based in Devon, Heritage Cob and Lime are official stockists of Tarmac Buxton Lime and we manufacture and supply lime mortar and associated products right across the UK. We now also make our own earthen cob blocks, ideal for use on cob properties.
Our client base is an eclectic mix of private home owners who are keen to restore their property themselves, artisan lime plasterers, traditional builders, architects, the construction industry, together with organisations who have an interest in maintaining historic buildings. Whether the building requiring the restoration is a large house or a small cottage or indeed a garden wall, we believe that each deserves to be restored using quality lime mortar.
We have supplied mortar and associated products to both small cottages right through to large properties including: Hampden House, near Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, Covent Garden, Liverpool Museum, Turweston Manor, Buckinghamshire, The Birdcage, Thame (700 years old), St Anne's Chapel, Barnstaple, Houghton Hall, Norwich, Windsor Castle, Berkshire, and Buckingham Palace, London.
Lime mortar can be used on stone and cob properties and also between brickwork as it is breathable and allows moisture/damp to flow in and out. When pointing brickwork or stone, try our inspirational pointing mix- we have developed a special mix that doesn't run down the brickwork, saving you hours of time on site! The use of lime mortars are especially important on cob/stone walls which require an element of moisture to keep them in good condition. Because lime mortar is flexible it allows a certain amount of movement in a building without cracking.
Heritage Cob and Lime Building Services
Restoration using traditional materials has always been at the heart of Heritage Cob & Lime, this is where we began, the manufacturing arm of our business has grown from the desire to always use quality products at all times.
Frank Rawle heads up the build work for Heritage Cob and Lime. He brings a wealth of experience, having trained under the guidance of senior partner, Dave Rawle, before working for a large construction company in Bristol. Frank also heads up our training workshops and demonstrates the practical application of lime mortar.
We also have access to a team of experienced heritage craftsmen, including an excellent carpenter and a specialist in ornate cornice and plaster mouldings. Heritage Cob and Lime have extensive experience in working on historic properties, including Grade I and Grade 2* Listed.
Consultation Service
Here at Heritage Cob & Lime we offer a consultation service for people considering buying a cob or stone property. We can identify possible problems and then suggest the correct way in which they can be remedied, all of which will form a written report.
By understanding the nature of the materials in the building, we can hopefully allay any fears or concerns you may have about purchasing an older property.
Whether it's a small repair or a large renovation project we can help- please give us a call on 01237 477431.

What an outstanding business - experts in their field! Our Thatched Cottage was incredibly damp due to the wrong materials being used. The skilled team at Heritage Cob & Lime have completely restored it and it's just beautiful. The attention to detail by the team and Frank's knowledge and project management skills meant we were in very capable hands.
Just wonderful!

Cob Blocks
We now manufacture our own earthen cob blocks, made from local vernacular subsoil, aggregate and straw. Our cob blocks are ideal for stitching cob buildings where damage has occurred and can also be used to build a cob house.
