Minister Visits Site Of Butetown Regeneration Project

Health Minister Edwina Hart has visited the site for a new health centre in Butetown, Cardiff.

The multi-purpose centre at Loudoun Square, part of a wider regeneration project, is a joint development between the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Cardiff Community Housing Association and Cardiff City Council that will include a health centre, community pharmacy, social services and sheltered housing facilities.

The Welsh Assembly government will provide a grant of £6.16 million towards the development of the health centre.

Patients will benefit from improved access and multiple services under one roof. The purpose-designed facility aims to meet the needs of a growing local population, with health services working in partnership with the wider community and public sector partners.

This is just one of the developments underway as part of improvements to healthcare facilities in Wales. Practices across Wales were recently able to apply for improvement grants to cover work to repair or expand facilities.

Ms Hart said: "This new centre will replace the current Butetown Health Centre. Developing a modern, energy efficient and accessible centre that meets the needs of local people is a priority.

"The regeneration programme will also allow for redevelopment of the existing Grangetown Health Centre site to increase access to primary care services in the area.

"Loudoun Square will be a flagship for local, cross-sector working and community-based health care delivery."
