Work is due to begin on a new children's building and adult toilets in Myatt's Fields Park, Lambeth, on 25 January 2010.
Workmen will break the ground in a ceremony attended by Lambeth's Mayor, Councillor Christopher Wellbelove, on 1 February.
The work is the latest investment in the much loved park in Kennington, which last year saw the completion of a £2.6 million improvement project, and the park being given special 'Green Flag' status.
The two high quality, wood-clad buildings have been designed by Knox Bhavan architects to form a 'family' of buildings in the park which match the Victorian bandstand and summerhouse.
The children's building will be built next to the playground, and will include children's toilets for the playground. It will house a main room for children's use and a parent's training room as well as a small kitchen and office for staff use, storage and toilets.
The building is designed to be light and airy, and will be clad in wood with a covered area running across the front. Windows across the front of the building will push back to leave the main room open to the park during summer.
Lindsay Avebury, Chair of Myatt's Fields Park Project Group, which has led the campaign for the new buildings, said: "The local community got together almost ten years ago and decided we must have a new One O'Clock Club.
"The old one was very cold in winter, and wasn't big enough to hold the numbers that need to use it.
"We are delighted that work is going to begin on the building and look forward to all the wonderful activities that will be offered to local families.
"We are also very pleased that work will begin on the public toilets as this is a vital amenity for the park. By placing these in the depot area, they will be under supervision by park staff including the gardeners, park manager and development/education officer."
