Barnsley Council's Building Control Service has announced the local nominees for a building awards ceremony, run in conjunction with other councils in the region.
South Yorkshire and Humber Building Control’s Building Excellence Awards, will be held on Thursday 4 March at the Forest Pines Hotel, Scunthorpe.
The event will celebrate the high quality building construction work that continues to be produced in South Yorkshire and Humberside in the current economic climate.
Sheffield based Bond Bryan Architects are hoping for success after being nominated in the Best Community Project category for 'The Core', the new high-profile headquarters of Voluntary Action Barnsley (VAB) built off County Way in Barnsley.
Constructed by Lotus Construction, this building has provided the organisation with a central and highly visible facility from which to offer advice, training and support to Barnsley’s vibrant third sector.
Part of the Keepmoat Group, Rotherham based Bramall Construction are also nominated in both the Best Social or Affordable Housing Development and Best Sustainable Project categories for their development of 58 units at Newhill Road in Barnsley. The development for Yorkshire Housing, in partnership with Bramhall Blenkharn Architects, BGP engineers, and the Strategic Housing Team at Barnsley Council is the first in the borough to receive a four star 'excellent' ECO Homes rating, issued by the national organisation BRE.
Building Control Manager, Tim Cliffe said: "I am pleased that Barnsley is well represented on the shortlist of nominations. All of the projects are buildings of distinction and quality, and are all schemes that the people of the region can be proud of."
