Lovell has been chosen by Guinness Northern Counties and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to build a £3.5 million affordable homes scheme at Wath-upon-Dearne, near Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
The scheme will create 29 houses, flats and bungalows, for rent and rent to homebuy through the housing association, on a number of sites at the White Bear estate. They will include eight two-bedroom, ten three-bedroom and seven four-bedroom houses; two two-bedroom bungalows and two one-bedroom apartments. The new housing, designed by architects AA Design, is due to be completed in spring 2011.
The mixed tenure development will be known as Montgomery Fields and spans three sites at Fleming Square, Michael Croft and Gawtress Row. It includes 29 new build properties, which will comprise 20 properties for rent and the remaining nine properties for rent to home buy.
In a pilot scheme for Guinness Northern Counties, two of the three-bedroom houses will be built to Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the system for measuring the environmental performance of new housing. The Level 5 homes will feature solar photovoltaic roof panels, and an exhaust air heat pump ventilation system.
The other homes will all meet Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. A number of the Level 3 homes will have solar hot water systems while both bungalows will have 'green' sedum roofs.
Lovell Regional Director Noel Adams said: "This scheme will make an important contribution to the ongoing regeneration of the area. We are delighted to be working with Guinness Northern Counties and the local community to deliver these new affordable homes, using our expertise in building energy-efficient, sustainable housing."
