A scheme being carried out by Lafarge Aggregates Ltd and Costain and supervised by A-one+ on behalf of the Highways Agency is now underway with the second section of construction work to rebuild and resurface a 2.8-mile section of the northbound A46 in Leicestershire started.
Traffic management is needed as the work is taking place 24-hours a day, seven-days a week until Sunday 2 May on the northbound carriageway, followed by some daytime lane closures for another three weeks, if required.
The traffic management for lane closures was installed after the Easter break and now covers the stretch of carriageway from south of Seagrave crossroads to north of Six Hills junction.
The contraflow system with northbound traffic running on the southbound carriageway will be in place for approximately three weeks, starting on Wednesday 14 April followed by lane closures.
Road users are advised that due to the closure of the petrol station for three weeks, they should ensure they have enough fuel to complete their journey. The Six Hills café will also close while the work takes place as access will be removed from the facility by the carriageway rebuilding works.
At any time during the works one running lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. There will be a complete closure of the southbound carriageway for two nights to install and remove the traffic management for each section.
The Highways Agency is an executive agency of the Department for Transport. We manage, maintain and improve England's motorways and trunk roads on behalf of the Secretary of State.
