Developer Morbaine has submitted plans for a new neighbourhood centre in Gainsborough's Corringham Road to West Lindsey District Council.
The proposals would see a new 12,000 sq ft convenience food store, a row of smaller retail units, a new nursery and a restaurant built on the former Environment Agency offices. The site would include 140 car parking spaces and extensive use of landscaping and mature trees would give it a ‘green’ feel.
Morbaine intends to hold a public exhibition for residents in two weeks time, where detailed plans and artist's impressions will be on display. Members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions and receive feedback.
As the current application is for outline planning permission, the plans are only indicative at present and changes may be made in light of any suggestions.
Alex Brodie, Director of Morbaine, said: "The Corringham Road area has seen a lot of new housing built in recent years and is earmarked for further growth, but at present has very little in the way of amenities.
"Our proposal includes a good-sized food store, some smaller retail units, a nursery and a restaurant, which we believe would help to fill that gap.
"Residents will be able to do their shopping and go for a meal closer to home, which means greater convenience for people living nearby and fewer car journeys into the town centre – cutting congestion and carbon.
"The development also has the potential to create up to 50 full and part time jobs.
"We will be holding a public exhibition of our plans in the very near future and we hope as many people as possible will come along and tell us what they think."
