The new University Centre Peterborough has been praised as 'a flagship educational building' by judges at the annual East Anglia Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards.
The centre – a joint venture between Peterborough Regional College and Anglia Ruskin University constructed in the grounds of Peterborough Regional College – is expected to be the first stage in developing an 'education quarter' in Peterborough.
It won the best education building award at an awards ceremony held at the Stoke by Nayland Hotel and Golf Club on the Suffolk / Essex border. Most of the winning projects and partnerships from the East Anglia awards will automatically be entered in the national LABC Building Excellence Awards to be held at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, London, on Tuesday 2 November.
Over 250 professionals from the construction industry attended the awards evening to recognise and reward the most innovative construction projects completed over the last 12 months and the enterprising organisations and personnel behind the schemes. The awards covered 14 categories in three main sections: best partnership, sustainability and technical design, and best projects.
Kevin Dawson, Building Control Manager at Peterborough City Council, said: "The quality of all the nominations was very impressive and clearly demonstrated what can be achieved through the commitment and dedication shown by agents, developers and builders who work closely with local authority building control officers.
"It was wonderful to celebrate these achievements and reward people from different disciplines who worked together as an inclusive design team."
