County Durham Wind Farm Up And Running

E.ON, one of the UK's leading green power companies, has announced that it has finished the construction and connection of its newest wind farm at Haswell Moor, near Haswell Plough in County Durham.

The wind farm features five 2MW turbines, which stand 110m tall to the tip of the blade and will produce enough clean energy to meet the electricity needs of around 5,5001 homes each year.

Richard Couzens, E.ON's Construction Project Manager for the project, said: "All five wind turbines are now up and running and producing electricity. The wind farm will help displace around 11,0002 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year of its operational life, which is great news for the environment.

"In addition, we'd like to thank the local community for their patience while we transported the large parts needed to build the wind farm over the last few weeks."

An E.ON community fund for the wind farm is being finalised and details will be released soon.

Meanwhile, construction is continuing at E.ON's Butterwick Moor wind farm, near Sedgefield, also in County Durham. The first turbine is expected to start generating power later this month. When complete, the 10 turbine wind farm will produce enough electricity to power more than 11,0001 homes each year.
