National Window Films Provide Blast Mitigation Systems For Existing Glazing

The powerful blast from a bomb can cause immeasurable destruction. It would seem that windows shattering would be the least of it, but a single square foot of glass can produce up to 200 deadly, razor-sharp fragments.

Flying glass shards are what many times causes severe injury, and even death. National Window FilmsR work with Madico to offer fully warranted solutions which are traceable from the factory to your glazing.

Madico conducts blast tests that adhere to ISO16933 International standards as well as the protocols outlined by the U.S. General Services Administration's Standard Test Method for Glazing and Window Systems Subject to Dynamic Overpressure Loadings. In addition to the Safetyshield range of blast mitigation films there are four glazing attachment system solutions: Framegard, Gullwing, WetGlaze, and Lifeline each with its own level of performance. Their systems are in place at some of the most highly protected buildings in the world.

Anchoring Restraint Systems

The SafetyShieldR Safety & Security Systems have been designed and tested to meet or surpass more government and international safety standards than any other products in the industry.

SafetyShield Framegard System

FrameGard has been specifically engineered to keep the filmed glass within the frame during an event. The primary advantage of this system is during installation the film is wrapped behind the FrameGard, which is then attached to the window frame with screws. This system also utilises a rubber gasket attached to the FrameGard, decreasing the shearing effect along the perimeter of the window. These are major advantages over the other systems. This system also allows engineers to precisely determine torque settings for each individual application, which can then be tested after the installation. Another advantage of this system is that it can be reused in most cases, where only the glass has been damaged.

SafetyShield Gullwing System

The SafetyShieldR GullwingT System is a flexible edge retention system. GullwingT is an extremely practical retro-fit solution which anchors the blast mitigation film to the frame without the need for drilling or screwing. The product is available in a range of profiles to fit most frames. This system is a quick and extremely effective blast mitigation measure.

SafetyShield WetGlaze System

The SafetyShieldR WetGlaze System utilizes Dow Corning 995 Structural Silicone to create a bond that connects the filmed glass to the existing window frame. During a natural or manmade disaster, the WetGlaze System is designed to maintain the structure of the shattered glass while the Dow Corning 995 reduces the shearing effect along the edges of the window frame.

SafetyShield LifeLine System

The SafetyShieldR LifeLine System employs synthetic cords that span the width of a filmed window. The system is designed to arrest the inward travel of the filmed glass after it has sheared at the edges during the positive phase of a blast. The cords used in this system are designed to elongate or stretch in order to absorb this energy until the negative phase pulls the shattered glass from the structure, therefore reducing the risk of injury to the occupants of the building. The design of this system also lends itself to retrofit applications where there is an existing film application. Specialist Installation

National Window FilmsR believe in adopting best practice installation to ensure the products deliver their designed level of protection. They are part of a global network of Premier Partners who are backed by Madico to deliver installation of the best quality using the correct materials. Their decision to join forces with Madico means that their customers are given full traceability from the name of the installer to the factory and more importantly the peace of mind that the work is fully warranted.
