Age Concern Centre Goes Energy Efficient

E.ON, one of the UK's leading energy companies, has awarded over £6,500 to Age Concern Oadby and Wigston to fund energy efficiency improvements.

Age UK Oadby and Wigston is a day centre committed to supporting older local people in later life. The Centre in Paddock Street, Wigston, serves around 60 hot lunches a day, offering a variety of activities and providing a hairdressing and chiropody service.

The grant from E.ON's Sustainability Energy Fund will be used to replace the existing lighting throughout the building with low energy units and on installing motion sensors to ensure that energy is not wasted in unoccupied areas.

Joy Husband, Chief Officer of Age UK Oadby and Wigston, said: "Without this grant we would have struggled to replace old, obsolete lighting with energy efficient alternatives. The new lighting will help us save energy and money, therefore directly benefitting the 1,000 older members of the local community who we help each week. We're very grateful for E.ON's ongoing support."

Tony Jenkin Jones, from E.ON's Community Relations Team, said: "We have a long standing relationship with Age Concern and Age UK and are thrilled to be able to award this centre with a grant that will help them get ‘energy fit. This money will help save the Centre energy, money and help reduce its impact on the environment."
