New computer-generated images have given the most accurate picture yet of Sovereign South+West's flagship environmentally sustainable housing development, which is currently being developed in Torbay.
The images reveal for the first time how the homes in Beechfield Avenue, Torquay, are expected to look when complete. The new project, which started on site in October 2010, will feature a mix of 112 apartments and 32 houses and will be the first in Torbay to be built to Levels 4 and 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, making it a flagship development for the area.
It will cost more than £20m to deliver and is being supported by around £7m in investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and £700,000 from Torbay Council.
A key part of the Beechfield concept is to combine well insulated homes with new technology to help reduce running costs for residents. All the homes will feature PV panels on the roofs to provide electricity, solar panels to heat all the hot water, and rainwater harvesting to flush the toilets. There are also going to be permeable roadways through the site which will provide a sustainable drainage solution.
The development will also provide job and training opportunities for local people during the construction phase.
Sarah Griffin, Regional Head of Development for Sovereign, said: "The new Beechfield development is going to be a landmark development for the area using innovative eco-technology and passing the benefits on to the residents living in the homes. Sovereign is also undertaking outright sale, market rent and shared ownership options using the government-backed HomeBuy scheme. This will also ensure that there is a relevant product to suit the needs of different people trying to own one of the new homes."
