Integrated property services provider, the Apollo Group has become a Planet Positive certified company, demonstrating its commitment to measuring and reducing its carbon emissions.
Planet Positive is an international environmental mark that recognises organisations that have committed to reducing their carbon footprint by at least 5% per year and that have a sound reduction programme in place to achieve these targets.
The Planet Positive mark is granted to organisations that undertake a four–step process to manage their environmental footprint: to measure and reduce carbon emissions; to invest in an accredited community sustainability project, through the Planet Positive Foundation (a registered charity); and to communicate their Planet Positive status to stakeholders.
Apollo has committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 50% by 2020; to achieving zero waste to landfill; and to reaching Gold Status under the Mayor of London's Green Procurement Code.
Through Planet Positive, Apollo will also invest in and deliver a UK wide schools education programme on sustainability. Apollo employees will be trained by Planet Positive and the Phoenix Consultancy, one of the UK's leading specialist education consultancies, to deliver fun and engaging sustainability assemblies in schools.
Apollo’s Sustainability Manager, Andy Merrin said: "Working with Planet Positive will provide Apollo with a real focus as we move forward with our environmental strategy. It will also help raise awareness on sustainability issues with all of our stakeholders."
Steve Malkin, CEO of Planet Positive added: "The Apollo Group has shown a great desire to go beyond their certification. They are providing a truly exciting and far-reaching programme to help spread the word that being green can bring a better way of living. By providing training for their employees, the Apollo Group is helping to bring sustainability to life for schools, their teaching staff, the pupils and surrounding communities."
