New social housing provider Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd Cyf (CCG) has selected Lovell as its contractor to deliver a £40 million, four-year improvement programme for 6,300 homes across Gwynedd in north-west Wales. Work is set to start in April.
The contract will mean new jobs and business opportunities within the construction sector in Gwynedd.
Lovell will carry out a range of modernisation work designed to bring the housing association's stock up to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard. The programme will vary from home to home and will include improvements such as the installation of new kitchens and bathrooms, new heating systems and external, roofing and structural work.
Lovell is committed to using as many local subcontractors and suppliers on the CCG scheme as possible and this month (March) held an event in Caernarfon to attract local contractors to work on the programme. It is currently recruiting for staff in Gwynedd and is also set to create opportunities for training, by taking on local apprentices to work on the modernisation programme. Lovell, which has a North Wales base in Mold, Flintshire, will open an office in Caernarfon in April.
The specialist Lovell resident liaison team will work closely with residents, who will mainly stay in their homes during the improvement programme, to ensure the work goes smoothly and efficiently.
Ffrancon Williams, Chief Executive at CCG, said: "This is only the beginning of our huge investment programme, we are keen to maximise the benefits to the economy in Gwynedd. Recruiting locally and providing training opportunities are key when we appoint contractors, Lovell is already proving that it is committed to recruiting in Gwynedd and to working with businesses in the area."
