Lovell has been chosen to deliver two mixed tenure housing developments, together worth £20 million, for Doncaster Council.
The schemes will create 162 homes for affordable rent, shared ownership (through the Lovell Choice shared ownership scheme) and for open market sale.
Lovell will build 123 properties on land at Six Streets, Hyde Park, Doncaster, and 39 homes at Kirby Street, Mexborough. Work is set to start this month with the Six Streets scheme set to be completed in 2015 and the Mexborough development due to be finished in 2013.
At Six Streets, the development will create six bungalows, 12 apartments and 105 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses. They will consist of 86 homes for open market sale; 22 properties for rent through registered social landlord Guinness Northern Counties and 15 available for shared ownership through the Lovell Choice scheme (which allows buyers to purchase a percentage of a property).
The Kirby Street scheme will include 27 homes for open market sale; seven for rent through Guinness Northern Counties and five offered through the Lovell Choice shared ownership scheme.
All homes will be highly insulated and energy-efficient, including solar panels which help them to meet Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, resulting in lower energy costs for residents.
The developments will also include new highway infrastructure and enhanced public open spaces. Residents for the rented homes will come from the Council’s waiting list, managed by Doncaster Home Choices.
John Ray, Head of East Region, Guinness Northern Counties said: "We are very pleased to be involved as partners in this much needed project, which will not only offer local people an affordable route into home ownership but also help to meet the desperate need for good quality affordable rented housing in the area. We are very much looking forward to welcoming our new tenants to their homes when the projects are completed."
