Moss Side Housing Scoops Excellence Award

A housing development in Moss Side, Manchester, has been named 'Best Affordable Housing Scheme' in the country at the annual Housing Excellence Awards.

The 'Infusion' development in Moss Side won the coveted title from judges last week at the eighth annual Housing Excellence Awards event. The Awards highlight and reward those who are leading the way in the social housing sector.

'Infusion' is the first part of a £17 million regeneration scheme that will see 64 Victorian homes being carefully renovated and converted for sale in the Bowes Street area of Moss Side, along with the update and improvement of a further 79 privately owned properties.

The homes boast stylish kitchens, Italian tiling in the bathrooms, solid oak internal doors and energy-efficient eco features such as solar panels, sun pipes and thermal insulation.

Besides getting a stylish, up to the minute new home, 'Infusion' buyers also benefit from living just a short hop from Manchester city centre - which offers a massive choice of leisure and retail facilities.

A shared equity scheme is being offered to qualifying purchasers to buy 70 per cent of the property, with the Council retaining a 30 per cent equity stake, which can be bought without interest at a later date.

Councillor Paul Andrews, Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services, said: "Improving housing quality and choice, and increasing owner occupation is an essential part of the ongoing regeneration of Moss Side and South Manchester as a whole.

"This award is well deserved and reflects the overall ethos and high standards that underpin the whole 'Infusion' development."
