Heat pumps provide a clean and renewable way of heating buildings in the UK. The earth continually absorbs heat from the sun, maintaining temperatures of between 8-14 degrees Celsius throughout the year at depths below 1 metre. Heat pumps use this energy for heating and hot water, providing one of the most energy efficient forms of heating. They are most efficient when used in ‘new builds’ that utilise under-floor heating.
With a heat pump there is no risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, no unsightly tanks, no need for gas supplies for heating and no scheduled service is necessary. Heating costs can be reduced 50% as more than 2/3 of the energy required is free from you own site. Borehole systems are not affected by weather conditions and it is a very 'eco-friendly' renewable energy source.
A heat pump can be installed in all areas using either boreholes, trenches or air source, depending on the ground conditions and space available at each individual site, to extract the heat from the ground which in turn is used to heat the buildings and provide hot water.
Heat pumps require electricity to power them, however they provide between 3 and 5 times more heat energy than they consume. They are extremely efficient.
