Britannia's has announced new projects have been secured to give a confident, recession-busting start to the year, including one of the largest Tesco stores in the North West, and a £3/4million project to link two sites via a tunnel running under a major commuter route.
A 100,000 sq ft Tesco store is just one of the major projects won by Britannia which has seen over £30 million of business secured by its specialist construction and civil engineering teams this year.
Britannia have been appointed by developer Morbaine to work on the redevelopment of its Ashley Retail Park in Widnes, undertaking the construction of a new 120,000 sq ft foodstore and filling station for Tesco, set to be one of its largest stores in the North West. The store will be built on stilts, partly covering the car park, with access to the sales deck via lifts and travelators located in a glass topped atrium. Set to open in Spring 2012, Britannia will commence construction over the next few weeks.
From North West to South West, in Somerset the construction firm about to start work on a £2 million project to transform a former car park into an area of public realm, to improve pedestrian links and draw the public into the area surrounding Taunton Castle, a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Once the site of Taunton Cattle Market, the car park area is situated over an ancient burial ground, and with a record of ancient remains found on the site, we are expecting to unearth Saxon relics during the course of the project. The new public realm area will include the installation of specialist granite paving, landscaping, as well as a stunning concrete and glass footbridge linking the river to the Castle. This contract follows on from Britannia's recent £2.7 million public realm project at Gloucester's Victoria Docks, for which we have recently been awarded a coveted CEEQUAL Excellent award for environmental quality and social performance.
In Cheltenham, the firm has been involved in construction work linked to a runway extension at Gloucester Airport.
