According to new research from energy company E.ON, Brits place saving money on their energy bill as their top household budgeting priority, however, many people are in the dark when it comes to understanding the true savings that can be made.
The research revealed that over a third (35%) of people put saving cash off their energy bill as their top priority, above saving money on the weekly food shop, phone and internet bills, petrol and going out. Yet when it comes to knowing the cash benefits – a mere 10% were aware of the £1402 saving that they could be making every year, just by getting energy fit.
Graham Bartlett, Managing Director of E.ON's Energy Solutions business, said: "We all know that energy is one of life’s essentials, but a huge number of people aren’t aware of the financial savings that they could make, just by getting energy fit and introducing small changes to the way they we use energy at home. Simple things such as switching the TV off standby or using your dishwasher a little less, all quickly add up and small changes in behaviour can knock pounds off your bill.
"Since we launched our Energy Fit Survey last year, we’ve seen over 100,000 people take our Survey, with many of those pledging to make changes which could save them over £1.2million off their energy bills. We'd urge anyone interested in saving to take the survey – it provides tailored energy efficiency advice that could really help reduce bills."
