A multi-million pound redevelopment of one of Sheffield's most popular schools has been given the green light.
Vinci Construction UK has now received the go ahead to proceed with the £9 million redevelopment of Notre Dame High School.
This will be the sixteenth school that will be develop under the hugely successful £350 million Sheffield Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme run by Sheffield City Council and VINCI Construction UK along side other members of the LEP (Local Education Partnership).
The makeover of the Fulwood based Catholic high school, which sits in 20 acres of ground, include refurbishment of the existing school building to provide modern and enhanced teaching facilities.
The plans also include the construction of a brand new accommodation block providing high quality teaching space, pupil and staff facilities and a new kitchen and restaurant.
A glazed link providing a covered outdoor space and the creation of a new visitors' entrance as well as improved pedestrian access into the school and throughout the site are also part of the plans.
Notre Dame Headteacher John Martin said: "This school is well known for its very special warm ethos which is recognised by all who visit the school. To be able to expand on this with modern, brand new facilities to complement our existing school building is wonderful news for us."
The project, which will begin this month will be completed over four phases with the final handover programmed for February 2013.
Regional Director for VINCI Construction UK, Keith Shivers said: "We're delighted to be involved in yet another transformational development, this time at the Notre Dame High School.
"The complexity of this project and the significant integration of the new construction works with the operational educational facilities will create unique challenges. I am confident that we have addressed these through the excellent working relationship that we have created with both the school and Sheffield City Council."
