Morgan Sindall Secures Place On £1.2bn Gatwick Framework

Morgan Sindall has won a place on the construction framework that will implement a £1.2 billion programme of upgrades and improvements at Gatwick Airport.

The programme includes a broad range of major projects at the airport designed to improve the passenger experience through upgraded terminal facilities, new aircraft piers and modernised baggage systems as well as new retail, security and immigration areas. Gatwick Airport Ltd is making the investment in partnership and co-operation with the airlines.

Morgan Sindall will compete with nine other contractors for the individual schemes over the four-year lifespan of the framework.

Stephen Scard, Managing Director of construction at Morgan Sindall, said: "We are obviously delighted to have this opportunity to play a part in Gatwick’s future. It is important that the UK maintains a state-of-the-art airport infrastructure. The level of investment being made at Gatwick is evidence of the desire to put passengers first and ensure the UK has transport hubs that are the envy of the world."

Morgan Sindall was on the major projects framework which Gatwick's owners, Global Infrastructure Partners, inherited when acquiring the airport in 2009. The construction and infrastructure company is presently on site, building the £50 million Gatwick North Terminal Extension. This upgraded facility will provide more capacity at the check-in areas, additional arrivals baggage reclaim and is due to open this year.
