A leading galvanizing company has 'branched out' by providing a helping hand in the creation of a decorative tree sculpture for a famous fashion hotspot.
Heywood-based Pillar Wedge, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, was called upon to provide its hot dip galvanizing treatment to an eye-catching piece of steel artwork installed at Afflecks Palace, a renowned independent shopping arcade in Manchester.
David Hyde, contemporary blacksmith and Owner of the forge and metalworking studio Verdigris, transformed the steel into a sculpture of a tree, which incorporates more than 200 leaves and branches, and spans almost 17 metres around the outside of the building, which is located in Manchester's vibrant Northern Quarter.
David Hyde, for Stockport-based Verdigris, said: "The concept of the tree ties in with how Afflecks Palace has grown and evolved over the years, and it also brings a little bit of 'rural' life into the city centre. Having the steelwork galvanized by the team at Pillar Wedge will ensure the artwork is provided with a long-lasting protection against rust and corrosion."
"The design created by David is definitely a little bit different, and now it has actually been unveiled, it certainly makes for an eye-catching addition to the area," Mark Waters, Commercial Manager for Pillar Wedge, commented. "Shoppers have already said it has really brightened up the place and fits in well with the arcade's diverse ethos."
Afflecks Palace is home to a number of independent retailers, boutiques, and small shops. It is anticipated that the new tree sculpture will be complemented over the coming months by a series of mosaics currently being designed by local artist Mark Kennedy.
Wedge Group Galvanizing is the largest hot dip galvanizing organisation in the UK with a history dating back over 150 years. With 14 plants strategically placed across the country, they offer a truly national galvanizing service.
