Alpina Gets Its Hooks Into Kavanagh Roofing

Alpina slates from leading roofing specialist, Cembrit, have been used on a prestigious housing development at Calne in Wiltshire.

The grey/green Brazilian slate offers an attractive colour contrast with the exterior of the properties and delivers high quality performance at a competitive price.

Located in the village of DerryHill just outside the town, the development of twenty five properties was built by C.G. Fry, a developer of housing developments in the region. The Alpina slates have been used throughout the site. Roofing contractor for the project was Kavanagh Roofing, based in Shaftesbury. The company used the hook fixing method to fix the slates – Cembrit's recommended method of fixing Brazilian slate.

"We've worked many times with Cembrit slates over the years and have always found them to be reliable," explained Graham Glaze of Kavanagh Roofing. "The Alpina slate was consistent and contains minimal unstable inclusions. By hook fixing we were able to lay the slate quickly with minimal breakages on-site – always a risk when holing natural slate. The finish we achieved really complements the architectural details of the properties and the end result has been widely admired."

Alpina is a Brazilian natural slate, selected from the finest deposits and produced at some of the best facilities inPapagaios,Brazil. It is available in two colours: grey green and graphite and in a variety of sizes. With its flat surface and pleasing shade variations, Alpina slate can be relied upon to create an attractive and long lasting roof.

Alpina slate has virtually no unstable minerals such as pyrites, graphite, carbon and un-oxidised irons and will withstand the most severe weather conditions: they are unaffected by sunlight, ultraviolet light and even acid rain. Laid correctly Alpina slate will last the lifetime of a building and are ideal for use on any type of project.
