Pool's skyline is now easier on the eye as work on Cornwall College's 30m-tall tower block nears completion.
Representatives from the college, Kier Western and sub-contractors D&B Façades came together to witness the Cornwall College logo being placed at the top of the Tamar building.
The £1.5 million facelift, which began in March and was designed by architects Burnett Pollock Associates, has seen the entire exterior of the 35-year-old building reclad in silver and blue, replacing the old dull grey colour. A new insulated external envelope has been fitted to cut heating costs, and windows have been entirely replaced letting more light and air into classrooms.
Cornwall College Camborne head, Mike Lister, said: "As the work has progressed we've seen what once was an eyesore on the Pool skyline transform into a building that is now pleasing to look at. The team from Kier have done an excellent job in refurbishing the exterior to prepare it for many more years of teaching high quality courses."
Kier Western area manager for the Cornwall region, John Fox, added: "Working together with our client Cornwall College, our specialist contractor D&B Facades and Burnett Pollock Associates Architects, this challenging scheme has brought out the best of all our specialisms. Close liaison, teamwork and some hard graft has resulted in a fantastic looking building, completed early and on budget. The transformation to the Tamar building is spectacular and one which will benefit not just the students but everyone in the area. It has been a most rewarding project to work on."
