People living in Ambergate, Crich, Bullbridge and Fritchley area will have the opportunity to meet with Severn Trent's project consultancy team to discuss proposals for the construction of a new reservoir.
The exhibition will be held on Wednesday 27 July at Glebe Field Centre, Glebe Field Close, Crich near Matlock.
There will be several displays covering a range of information on the proposed scheme and members of the team will be available to deal with any concerns raised by the public.
Ambergate is Severn Trent's largest covered reservoir holding 128 million litres of drinking water and has supplied up to 590,000 customers in the East Midlands for over 100 years. The existing reservoir has deteriorated with age and is now in need of replacement.
Duncan Wratten, Severn Trent's Project Manager, said: "Options to refurbish the existing reservoir were taken into account, however following careful consideration it was agreed that a new reservoir would need to be constructed in order to continue the supply of quality water to Severn Trent's customers.
"Severn Trent is liaising with Amber Valley Borough Council, Derbyshire County Council and local authorities. We understand that residents and businesses will have many questions and concerns about the construction of a new reservoir and this is why we have organised an open exhibition. The community will have the opportunity to discuss proposals in more detail with members of our team and provide feedback on the plans."
The existing reservoir is located to the south west of Crich, to the west of Fritchley and to the north of Ambergate and Bullbridge. It is a large, covered concrete structure, approximately 190 metres by 110 metres in size, which was constructed between 1907 and 1910.
