Cottage Style Homes Bring Affordable Living To Beadnell

Construction News Image
New affordable homes have been unveiled in the Northumberland village of Beadnell, thanks to investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

North East housebuilder Yuill Homes has celebrated the completion of its Cardinal Point development in the popular coastal village, where strong demand for holiday homes risks pushing the price of houses beyond the reach of many local people.

Developed in partnership with Four Housing Group and Northumberland County Council, the scheme has created 38 new cottage-style homes for sale, rent and shared ownership at a site of Longbeach Drive.

The mixed tenure development received funding of £555,000 from the HCA, helping to tackle the shortage of affordable housing in the popular coastal village.

"These are high quality, attractive homes that are just right for a beautiful Northumberland coastal village," said Bill Carr, area manager at the HCA.

"This part of the county has a wide gap between house prices and average earnings, so new affordable homes will make a huge difference for hard-pressed families."

The development is the latest in a series of rural housing schemes in Northumberland to receive funding from the HCA, which has recently invested in new affordable homes in Lesbury, Falstone and Allendale.

David Mullins, Managing Director for Yuill Homes, said: "Yuill Homes is proud to have worked in partnership with Four Housing Group, Northumberland County Council and the HCA on such an important rural housing development as Cardinal Point.

"We are committed to supporting the sustainability of local communities across the North East and are delighted to have created a high quality mixed tenure housing development that has enabled a range of local homebuyers to afford the opportunity to remain in or relocate to one of Northumberland's most desirable coastal villages."

Cardinal Point has taken over twelve months to complete, with individual homes uniquely designed to ensure that the development complements the local landscape.
