The latest Household Automation installation features KNX automation.
As a KNX installer Household Automation specified KNX because of its versatility, the five bedroom house is in the process of being refurbished and this was an ideal time to introduce structured cabling. The KNX system is connected to all the lighting dimmers and relays (40 in all): to the heating control (both under floor and traditional radiators); blinds and automated internal doors.
Interconnection to the Comfort home alarm enables the PIR movement detectors to be used for setting back lights when specific areas are not in use.
The customer choice of Jung switches means that wall furniture can be made to match – the thermostat is incorporated into the light switch! And the aesthetically pleasing glass fronted fascias come in a choice of colours and material finishes to suit every taste. Additional KNX switches can be added by the use of multiple back boxes – the switches themselves physically connect into the bus allowing full programming of any function on any button.
The property is currently moving into second fix stage and equipment is being installed, once KNX low voltage (green) cable has been powered up the wall switches can be programmed and fixed prior to decoration. This is due to the fact that the glass fascias and buttons clip into place covering the bus coupler part of the switch which is sunk in to the wall.
Dimmable LED lighting (Halers) had been used through out the property providing a crisp bright light with of course the added benefit of exceptional life span (claimed 75,000 hours) and amazing power savings – the Halers LED lamps use 10W as opposed to the conventional 35 or 50W.
The next stages of second fix are to install the blinds and door openers this will be followed by interconnection of the Comfort alarm. Third fix bespoke programming is covered once all components are in place. The property is due to have full iphone ipad connectivity so we will keep you posted on further developments.
Household Automation currently has projects that utilise KNX for a number of different applications. The KNX range is extensive covering over 250 manufacturers (JUNG GIRA Theben, ABB, Hager, Merten to name but a few) and is ideal for the management of eco devices.
