Kier Builds Bridges With Younger Generation

Kier has been building bridges with the younger generation in the Eastern region by setting up a special play area at a nursery school.

The new construction-themed play area was installed by the company at the University of East Anglia (UEA) Nursery on Earlham Road, Norwich.

Kier is currently on site at the new £21m City Academy nearby on Bluebell Road, and nursery staff got in touch with the project team as the children were excited by all the building work they could see on their way to nursery.


After the children began asking questions about the works taking place at the Academy site, Kier carpenter Steve Corey and graduate engineer Phil Wright, set to work erecting signs and assembling barriers for a new construction-themed play area. Kier also supplied mock building materials and provided the nursery with hard hats and hi-visibility vests to make sure the children could play safely.

Kier senior contracts manager David Henry said: "It is vitally important that children learn about the workings and potential dangers of a construction site as early as possible. It has been a real pleasure to be able to provide the nursery with this new play area, which will not only entertain, but will also educate the children."
