Lovell has welcomed students from Bath College's BTEC Construction course to its Southlands development site in Bath, to show them how a real-life building site operates.
The students were escorted around the site by site manager at Southlands, Aaron Cross, who explained the various build stages. The students also learnt how planning issues were resolved as well as how the site managers work to ensure that the site is sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Nick Kurobasa, Lovell's regional director in the South West, said: "Lovell is committed to working with young people and future constructors to help develop their skills. We have lots of expertise within the company and it is a pleasure to share this with talented young people such as the students of Bath College."
The site visit builds on Lovell's relationship with Bath College. Earlier this year Lovell training advisor Mike Davis visited the college to talk about the planning processes and sustainability issues that concern the Southlands site. The students worked with actual planning documents such as the site survey, ecological reports and the community consultation report.
Sarah White, BTEC construction lecturer at Bath College, said: "This visit was invaluable to the students as it has brought the lessons they have learnt in college to life, allowing them to see and understand why certain processes and materials are used in the early stages of a site.” Lovell is working with Somer Community Housing Trust to build 74 new affordable homes in the Southlands area of Bath."
