Morgan Sindall has started on site at the new £3.8 million Hattersley District Centre.
The four-storey centre is part of land owners Tameside Council and Peak Valley Housing Association's regeneration master plan for the town and includes a new 94,300 sq ft Tesco Metro store, where Morgan Sindall started on site earlier this year.
The new centre will include a new public library, youth facilities, a community hall, offices for Peak Valley Housing Association and the Community Forum Association and a satellite office for the local police. An under-croft car park will provide spaces for 25 vehicles.
Morgan Sindall has already completed a 10 week programme of site-clearing works. The building is due for completion in August 2012.
Ryan Jones, site manager for Morgan Sindall, said: "The District Centre is eagerly anticipated in Hattersley as it will really enhance local services and provide a vibrant focal point for the community.
"Although this building doesn’t have a particularly large footprint, it involves a variety of construction techniques including brickwork, zinc cladding, an under-croft structure for the car park and a glazed footbridge on the first floor. It’s quite a challenging build."
Phil Corris, Managing Director for Peak Valley Housing Association, said: "This is an important part of the multi million pound regeneration plans for Hattersley and it's fantastic to see real progress on site.
"Morgan Sindall has an enviable reputation for quality and really focuses on engaging with the communities it is part of which is particularly important for a project such as this."
