VINCI Construction UK Wins Gold

VINCI Construction UK, in association with Sheffield City Council, has picked up the gold award at this year’s North East LABC Building Excellence awards 2012.

High Storrs School, built by VINCI Construction UK and designed by BDP Architects, won the award for Best Restoration and Conversion Project at the annual LABC awards. As well as building industry excellence, the awards also acknowledge buildings and site teams that had to overcome technical issues, innovation and creative solutions.

The £26 million contract, part of the Sheffield BSF scheme, saw the design and construction of a new teaching and administration block, a sports hall, and the refurbishment and restoration of the original 1933 Grade II listed building.

The school achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘very good’ and VINCI Construction UK was able to use its in-house Technology Centre to ensure the project was completed in a sustainable manner and to the highest standard.

Mr Ian Gage, Headteacher, High Storrs School, commented: "This award is well deserved. To their credit the large organisation that VINCI Construction UK is, managed to achieve a supportive close working relationship with the school and thereby ensured that our educational needs remained a priority throughout the project."
