Support Services and Construction Company Carillion, which has been selected to carry out an extensive refurbishment of the former secondary school site and build the new 2,400m2 special school, will be presenting its plans for the new academy and special school on the former Hereward Community College site. The planning application for the proposed redevelopment of the site was submitted to Peterborough City Council's planning department on 8 May 2012.

At the open evening, representatives from Carillion, Peterborough City Council and the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust, which will run the new academy, will be on-hand to speak to residents about the plans.
The new academy will be co-educational and will cater for up to 1,100 pupils aged from 11 to 18 years. It will have a strong community focus and will work closely with post-16 education providers such as Peterborough Regional College and City College Peterborough to ensure young people can access courses relevant to their learning needs and career aspirations.
The special school will cater for up to 90 children with autism aged from four to 18 years.
It is proposed that the special school will open in September 2012 in the existing courtyard building. The mainstream 11 to 18 academy, including the special school's new building, will open a year later in September 2013.
Councillor John Holdich, cabinet member for education, skills and university, said: "It is important that residents and more importantly, parents of children who one day may attend the academy or special school, are able to find out more about the plans.
"The academy and special school will have a strong community focus and I know that Carillion and the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust want to meet as many members of the community as possible and share the plans for the site. This event is a chance for all residents to find out more and ask any questions they may have."
