HCA Regeneration Activity Recognised Across Top 100 Schemes

Three quarters of the 100 largest regeneration projects in the country are led by the Homes and Communities Agency, or have received funding from the Agency in the last 12 months, according to a definitive industry listing published.

Published annually, Regeneration and Renewal magazine’s Top 100 details progress against the biggest regeneration schemes, ranked by investment values ranging from £6.8bn to £120m. Now in its fifth year, the 2012 listing includes 68 HCA schemes, equating to 75% of the total in England. The HCA schemes range from the £4.6bn Greenwich Peninsula – the largest geographic regeneration area in Europe – to the £120m Heart of Slough development of new homes with a cultural centre.

Speaking at the launch event Pat Ritchie, chief executive of the HCA, said: "As this year's Top 100 demonstrates, regeneration delivery across the country is still strong and there are still resources to be tapped and different approaches to be taken.

"But we mustn't underestimate the challenges of continuing this success – a lot less funding from the public and private sector against a backdrop of continuing challenging economic conditions which is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

"Our best response will be a flexible approach through a mix of grant, investment, and the maximum use of public assets, while working with local authorities and other public and private sector partners. It is this locally led and integrated approach which will best use scare resources and capacity against agreed local priorities."
