"We look forward to playing our role in having the new Business School ready to welcome back its staff and students next summer."

Professor Rob Dixon, Dean, Durham Business School, said: "We are delighted to be working with such an accomplished construction company as Miller on what is an important project for Durham Business School. This development also forms part of the University’s long term investment strategy.

"We are looking forward to returning to our extended and enhanced building, which will enable the School to provide state-of-the-art facilities to match the high expectations of our growing number of students and staff."

Works comprise an extensive remodel, including structural alterations to the current internal spaces and the creation of two new blocks of two and three storeys. The new blocks will be linked to the existing building and form two distinct courtyard areas. A new curved walkway will provide access to the courtyard areas and will be created through the use of structural glazing.

The Business School will also benefit from four new lecture theatres including a Harvard-style theatre which enables an interactive style lecture experience.

In addition to the new lecture theatres, breakout and open meeting areas are being incorporated to enhance and improve both staff and student interaction. The building will also benefit from a new restaurant and lounge area which will extend on to a roof terrace. The reception area will be transformed and accessed via a striking glazed entrance which will instill a sense of arrival at the Business School whilst providing a focal point for the front of the building.
