BM TRADA Certification Launches Competent Persons Scheme For Non-Dwellings

BM TRADA Certification has launched its Competent Persons Scheme (CPS) for non-dwellings aimed at installers of windows and doors.

Having had approval from the Department for Communities and Local Government, the company is one of only two operators authorised to offer the CPS for non-dwellings service in the UK.

The Building Regulations in England and Wales contain a requirement for replacement windows and doors to meet a number of different criteria.

However, demonstrating compliance and providing notification to Local Authority Building Control (LABC) for each installation can be both costly and time consuming.

“This scheme will allow installers to self-certify the installation of windows and doors into commercial buildings (including schools for example), without having to have Building Control inspection,” said Simon Beer, Product Certification Manager - Doors and Windows, at BM TRADA Certification. “Potentially this could save large amounts of money per installation.”

Becoming a member of the BM TRADA Certification CPS for non-dwellings means a company can demonstrate compliance with the Building Regulations in a simple and cost effective way, allowing installers register their commercial installations through the company. The requirements are similar to that for dwellings, meaning that an already certified installer can add non-dwellings to their existing scope. However, , they will still need to apply separately if they wish to register non-dwellings under the scheme.

The scheme aims will enable an installer or organisation to demonstrate their compliance with the Building Regulations as well as providing peace of mind that they are suitably qualified and that their work is checked by an independent body.
