Demolition Work Begins On Derelict Properties

Work has started to demolish derelict properties at Nottingham’s Trent Basin site off Trent Lane.

The land owner of the 4 ha site, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), has appointed Connell Brothers to bring down the buildings and WYG to undertake further site investigation works on the land.

The site has been earmarked for redevelopment for more than 10 years with a resolution to grant outline planning permission made by Nottingham City Council in 2007. Housing market conditions and land preparation costs at the site have been barriers to progress but fresh investment from the HCA means that some of the site clearance works can be carried out.

Kate Reid, Area Manager for the HCA, said: "We are working closely with Nottingham City Council to try to bring this land forward for development and meet their ambitions for developing more new homes for the city. In the short term, the site will be cleared and made safe with the removal of long term vacant warehouses and we are working closely with neighbouring businesses to minimise any disruption. There is still some way to go, however, to fully ready the site for development in terms of land remediation and infrastructure investment."

The HCA will have invested up to £850,000 in the works, which is expected to take up to 30 weeks to complete. More on the future of the site will be known early next year.
