Wates Construction’s delivery of the new £20m Doncaster Civic Offices has outshone projects in South Yorkshire to be named ‘Project of the Year’ by The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
The honor, which is reserved for the scheme that stands out in constructing excellence, innovation and quality, was awarded to Wates at the Celebrating Construction in South Yorkshire (CCISY) 2012 awards ceremony on Friday 5 October.
The contractor, which completed the striking five-storey building at just £1,250 per sq m, was commended by the CIOB for its standards in health and safety, cost effectiveness and commitment to added value.
Delivered on behalf of Doncaster Council and its development partner, Muse Developments, the project saw Wates award £1.5m worth of supplier contracts to local companies. A local Administration Apprentice and Commercial Trainee were also appointed to help deliver the work.
David Price, Business Unit Director for Wates Construction, Yorkshire, commented: "It is an honour to have been awarded the Project of the Year award for our delivery of Doncaster Civic Offices. It is an impressive building that sits proudly at the heart of the town and marks a significant step forward in the regeneration of Doncaster.
"Throughout the work we have maintained a close partnership with both the Council and Muse to ensure this flagship building brings with it a raft of opportunities for positive community impact and I am delighted that the success of the project has been recognised by the CIOB."
As the fifth annual CCISY awards, the 2012 ceremony showcased excellence and innovation in South Yorkshire's construction community, including high quality work from developers, supply chain members, contractors and architects.
