Residents across the UK are being offered an exclusive opportunity to have a look behind the scenes at some of the country's most exciting building sites.
On Friday 9 November and Saturday 10 November, Kier Construction is participating in Open Doors Weekend, a nationwide pilot project from the construction industry that invites people to visit a construction site in their area.
Kier will open up six of its sites across the UK and members of the public can pre-register to take a guided tour and learn more about the schemes, their development and the world of construction. In addition to having a good look around, visitors at some sites will also be able to watch demonstrations of trades including bricklaying, carpentry and plumbing, and will even have the opportunity to give it a go themselves.
Kier project manager, Tony Harrison, said: "We're really looking forward to welcoming members from our local communities onto our sites. It’s fantastic to be able to offer people the chance to see what we do and see the projects as they’re being built. Working on a construction site can be challenging but it’s extremely exciting and rewarding as well. I hope that members of the public get a sense of that and a better understanding of what’s involved by coming onto our sites."
The Open Doors scheme is being trialled across the country and is the result of a partnership of four leading industry bodies, UK Contractors Group (UKCG), CITB-ConstructionSkills, the Considerate Constructors Scheme and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). The initiative intends to present construction in an engaging and interesting way and showcase the dynamic, exciting career opportunities that construction has to offer.
