Council Invests Over £500,000 To Improve Roads

Cambridgeshire County Council is investing more than £500,000 to improve roads and footways in Fenland.

Between now and the end of November, contractors will be carrying out work in Whittlesey, Chatteris, Wimblington, March and Wisbech.

Work to construct a new footway and repair the existing pedestrian path in St Martin’s Road, Chatteris, has begun and is expected to take around five weeks to complete at a cost of £40,000.

Two days of footway and road repairs in Orchard Street, Whittlesey, costing £20,000 start on October 29, and road repairs in Benwick Road, Whittlesey, also begin on the same day and are expected to take four days to complete at a cost of £120,000.

Also starting on October 29, are five days of footway repairs in Church Road, Wimblington, which are estimated to cost around £28,000. On November 5, three weeks of overnight work will commence on the A141 Isle of Ely Way, March. The work will cost £350,000.

The road will be repaired between 7.00 pm and 6.30 am on the stretch between Wisbech Road and Burrowmoor Road with the road closed during working hours and traffic directed on to a local diversion route and the weight limit on the town bridge suspended during working hours.

Contractors will also start work on November 5, to repair the footway in Bedford Street, Wisbech, at a cost of £20,000. The work is expected to take two weeks.
