Plans for the next phase of the transformation of Rowner in Gosport, with new homes and improved open space have been approved by councillors.
Gosport Borough Council's planning committee last night approved Rowner Renewal Partnership's detail for the third phase of its regeneration. Community consultation took place in May and the plans were well received. Phase 3 of Rowner Renewal fills the space between the redevelopment at the south of the site around Howe Road and the new Tesco, retail stores and apartments (currently under construction) opposite HMS Sultan.
The plans allow for 175 new homes which will be constructed by home builder Taylor Wimpey, including 152 houses and 23 apartments. Thirty nine of the houses will be affordable homes and the rest will be for private sale. The houses will be a mix of two, three and four bedrooms and the apartments are one and two bedrooms. Within this phase there will be two pocket parks which will be accessed from the central avenue creating important green community spaces through the centre of the new development.
The decision follows the positive progress made on the first two phases of the project, which will bring hundreds of new homes, jobs and retail facilities to the area.
Cllr Mark Hook, Leader of Gosport Borough Council said: "The town houses in this phase that wrap around the pocket park look very smart indeed and will complement the homes in the first phase but will be distinctly different. With a mix of private, shared ownership and rental opportunities Rowner will provide the variety of housing types that residents and future generation require. The opening of the retail shops next year will provide much needed local employment and continue the transformation of this area of Gosport."
