Work is officially underway on the next phase of housing at the award-winning £400m mixed-use community of Locking Parklands in Weston-super-Mare.
St. Modwen, the developer responsible for the regeneration of the former RAF Locking site, and landowner the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), marked a new programme of work delivering 150 more new homes at the 200 acre sustainable community.
Named The Meadows, the homes in this latest phase are being developed by St. Modwen Homes – the housebuilding arm of St. Modwen – and will be available to be reserved from plan by February 2013. The majority will comprise of two and three bedroom houses and two bedroom apartments, whilst a small number of larger, four bedroom homes will be made available in the future. Thirty per cent of the total number of properties will be allocated as affordable housing.
This new phase of homes follows the completion of 70 out of a total of 100 high-specification, sustainable homes developed by St. Modwen Homes at The Parklands and The Woodlands phases at Locking Parklands. To date, 66 families have moved into the community with a further 14 reservations also expected to be completed during the early part of the New Year. The development has proved extremely popular, with more than half of the homes at The Woodlands phase sold off-plan.
The Locking Parklands development was recently honoured as one of the top three housing schemes in the UK at the annual What House Awards for its wide range of properties and excellent designs. When complete, it will deliver up to 1,500 new homes with a mixture of type, size and design available, providing new build properties for first time buyers, those moving up the property ladder and downsizers.
