East Manchester Homes To Receive Overhaul

Construction News Image
A cluster of run-down, boarded-up properties in East Manchester will be given an overhaul in a new strategy to bring empty homes back in to use in the city.

Manchester City Council has identified 27 properties in East Manchester that will be transferred to building contractor Rowlinson Constructions Ltd, to refurbish and improve with a view to boost home ownership in the area.

The scheme will provide good quality, affordable home ownership in East Manchester which will, in an area of significant investment, encourage people to stay in and move to the local area.

Providing a real choice of decent homes is a major priority for the wider regeneration plans for East Manchester and to make use of these properties it is vital that they are brought up to standard as quickly as possible.

Rowlinson's will begin work on the properties this week, and Manchester College students will also partner the scheme, using two of the properties as an educational tool for students to develop themselves in a hands-on practical environment to advance their skills and knowledge in the building trade.

Rowlinson's will also provide work experience opportunities for construction trainees from East Manchester to work on the redevelopment to promote employment and education and ensure a lasting benefit for local people.
