Council To Fit LED Lighting To Reduce Energy Bills

Nearly 400 bus shelters will be fitted with state-of-the-art LED lighting which will save money and reduce energy bills and carbon emissions.

Derbyshire County Council is funding the £75,000 scheme through its carbon reduction initiatives fund.

By replacing existing fluorescent tubes with LED technology which produces the same level of light for less energy, we're expected to save £117,995 over five years.


And it also expects to reduce our carbon footprint by 50 tonnes of CO2 each year.

Councillor John Allsop, Cabinet Member for Recycling and Technology, said: "The new LED lighting will mean that the same level of lighting can be achieved using less energy, reducing both energy bills and carbon emissions.

"The LED units also last considerably longer than fluorescent alternatives helping us to make significant savings."
