Plans For Regeneration Of Dollis Valley Submitted

Plans for a major regeneration of the Dollis Valley housing estate in Chipping Barnet have been submitted to Barnet Council by Countryside Properties.

The proposed new development will involve the construction of 616 new affordable, private and rented homes in a wide range of designs and sizes to suit the differing needs of families. The plans have been developed by Countryside in conjunction with L&Q, one of the UK's leading housing associations.

The proposed new scheme will be built in five phases, with a five week consultation beginning shortly on the first phase of 108 properties. Phase one includes 21 four bedroom, 46 three bedroom, 29 two bedroom and 12 one bedroom homes.

The proposal will involve the demolition of the existing estate, which was built in the late 1960s. The existing estate is owned by Barnet Council and comprises two and three storey houses and five storey blocks of flats and maisonettes.

The scheme proposes a mix of traditional houses with gardens and apartments. The affordable homes provided will benefit from Countryside Properties' 'It's Your Choice' scheme which enables tenants and leaseholders to customise their new home.

The proposals also include new green spaces and community facilities, including a community centre and pre-school nursery. These facilities, complemented by programmes to fund local initiatives, will strengthen the existing Underhill community hub on Mays Lane and provide employment and training opportunities for local people.

If planning permission is granted, work on the estate is likely to begin towards autumn 2013. Countryside and L&Q will be working directly with residents to explain how the redevelopment will affect them.
