Work is set to start in the summer on Boston's new bridge.
The structure will replace the existing St. Botolph's bridge, which spans the River Witham and overlooks the Boston Stump.
Work will begin in mid-August and should be completed by early November. The project will be split into three phases in order to reduce disruption at the crossing, which means the bridge will be closed for a period of just four weeks from mid-September.
The contemporary bowstring design was chosen following extensive consultation with the public. The new structure will be wider than the existing bridge and will include a non-slip surface and improved access for disabled people, as well as an information board about the Boston Stump. It will incorporate decorative lighting to create a bright and welcoming gateway into the town.
Richard Waters, Principal Engineer at Lincolnshire County Council, said: "St Botolph's footbridge will be a new landmark for Boston which I hope people will be pleased with. We are on programme to start construction this summer. The bridge is being built by a local company - Britcon - which means that this £750,000 investment will benefit different people across Lincolnshire. The County Council and Britcon are working together to make sure disruption to residents and businesses is kept to a minimum."
The bridge will be built by Scunthorpe based civil engineering firm, Britcon, who have been awarded the contract following their successful tender submission. The final structure will be 65 metres long, with a number of features to enable easy access for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The cost of the bridge is being met by Lincolnshire County Council and the European Regional Development Fund.
