The Business Secretary, Vince Cable, visited Linden Homes' development in Teddington to see for himself the housing, jobs and investment it has brought to his constituency.
The Liberal Democrat cabinet member and MP for Twickenham was given a guided tour of the apartments and houses at Wallis Mews by the managing director of Linden Homes South East, Steve Bangs, and sales and marketing director, Emily Nesbitt.
The visit was a chance for Linden Homes and Mr Cable to discuss key issues such as apprenticeships to solve the skills shortage, support for house builders to provide the extra new homes the country needs, and how the new government backed ‘help to buy’ scheme will reinvigorate the housing market.
High up the agenda was explaining to Mr Cable how the Linden Homes National Apprenticeship Programme is aiming to have 500 trainees on the scheme nationwide within the next three years.
Mr Cable said: "House building is crucial to our economic recovery: it generates jobs, creates apprenticeships and provides homes that we desperately need. I was delighted to see all these benefits being delivered at Wallis Mews in my own constituency, particularly the 50% affordable provision that is being made available through the Notting Hill Housing Trust.
"The Coalition is committed to the success of house building and I was pleased to hear that our recently announced Help to Buy scheme is being warmly welcomed by Linden Homes."
