Up to 700 mud larks are expected to tackle a newly designed five-mile course on land near the World Headquarters in Rocester on Saturday, June 29. Designers are still dreaming up fiendish challenges though one feature this year will be a 100 foot long, just under 10 foot high underground tunnel complete with obstacles. Elsewhere cargo nets, rope swings, slides, monkey bars and jumps will further test those taking part. Around 500 people took part last year, raising a staggering £30,624 to help JCB hit its target of donating £1 million to the NSPCC.

JCB Worldwide Marketing Director Matt McClurg said: "This year's Mud Run promises to be even muddier, tougher and more testing than the inaugural event. It’s for a fantastic cause and we’re confident it’ll be even bigger and better than last time."
Mud runners must be 16 or over and will be bussed to the course where clothes and bag storage as well as washing facilities, will be available. Spectators are welcome on the day too with activities including a mini mud run for children. Hot food and drinks will be available all day. Entry fees before May 31 are £45 for individuals and £160 for a team of four. From June 1, it is £55 for an individual and £200 for a team. Entrants have to register in advance at www.thejcbmudrun.co.uk. The closing date is Friday, June 28.
