Next Stage For Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm

Construction News Image
The UK Government's Planning Inspectorate is to examine plans for a 32-wind turbine farm in the Denbighshire and Conwy border.

According to the BBC, officials are now inviting opponents and other groups to register and share their views on the proposed farm for Clocaenog Forest.

The plans were first submitted in 2009 but have to undergo a number of planning stages before a final decision is made.

A report is now being prepared for ministers to consider and the Planning Inspectorate, which is an agency of the Department for Communities and Local Government responsible for public examination of development plans, will have six months to conduct an examination. Those wishing to express their opinions on the development have until 12 June to formally register.

RWE npower renewables has set up a website to provide updates as well as an explanation of the process.

It claims the forest turbines could produce enough energy to supply the domestic needs of up to 40,800 households, however, members of the protest group Clocaenog Against Wind Turbines (CAWT) say they want the forest preserved.

The firm said it has worked closely with ornithologists and ecologists to produce a habitat management plan, to include restoration of habitats and woodland management.
